"GOAT" Debate Continue as Lionel Messi Won his First International Trophy

 The long wait by Lionel Messi for an international trophy is over. Brazil defeats Argentina 1-0 in Copa America's final to close the most significant gap in his legendary career. 

Angel Di Maria scored the decisive goal in the tournament's second half. She seized a spectacular low-long pass by Rodrigo De Paul and took it to the goal. 

Brazil failed to clear its lines. Instead, the PSG attacker cushioned it with great first touch from the outside of his left leg before lobbing Ederson with an elegant strike.

After the match was over, Messi fell to his knees. His Argentina teammates surrounded him, and then he went to join the cheering crowd. But, unfortunately, the 78,000-seater Maracana could only hold 10 percent of its capacity due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Argentina's 28-year-old wait for a title is over with this victory. Their previous trophy was the 1993 Copa America.

 Brazil increased the pressure in a thrilling second half but, despite having five strikers on the field, they couldn't score an equalizer against the Argentine defense, which De Paul protected. 

Messi was the tournament's joint-top goalscorer with four goals. He also collected the honor of player of the tournament before he got his hands on the trophy.

He was quite during the final and uncharacteristically missed an opportunity to win the game with only two minutes left. 

De Paul picked out Messi and had the ball and game in his hands within the six-yard zone. However, he seemed to lose his footing, and Ederson quickly closed the gap. Brazil was able to make him smile, despite the five-minute delay at the end.

While Messi was subdued by his team, Neymar, Brazil's talisman, was in tears at the end of the match. Although he was a key player in his team's play, they could not overcome a stubborn and tough Argentina defense.

The game was delicately poised late in the game, and Messi missed a golden opportunity to win the game due to a poor initial touch.

Despite his incredible standards, Messi was always paid close attention by the Brazil defenses electrifying methods made a subdued display.

Brazil coach Tite attempted to change the dynamics of the match after a tentative start. He substituted Fred, a defensive midfielder, for Roberto Firmino. It certainly gave them some energy. 

Richarlison thought that he had equalized just before the end of the second period. However, his attempt was incorrectly ruled out for offside.

Despite having more ball possession, the Selecao was unable to create any real opportunities. Gabriel Barbosa was late to the rescue, but Emi Martinez would not have been disappointed.

Argentina's 15th Copa America victory brings them to a level with Uruguay as the most successful winner.

They won their 20th consecutive match undefeated under Lionel Scaloni. However, this was Brazil's first defeat in competitive play since losing to Belgium in the quarterfinals of 2018.

Scaloni stated, "This is a huge title." 'I hope the Argentines will enjoy it. Fans love the team and identify with this team that is always on guard.

Brazil talisman Neymar was in tears as he waited for another title with his country.

After the last whistle at the Maracana, Neymar, PSG forward, quickly removed his Copa America medal runner-up award.

Richarlison of Everton thought he had scored a goal for Brazil at one point, but it was incorrectly ruled out for offside.

 

 This victory caps a remarkable return to international football for Messi. He was so disappointed at losing to Chile in the Copa America final 2016 on penalties, just like he had done one year earlier. He decided to retire from international football.

He decided to change his mind a few months later and helped Argentina get to Russia's World Cup finals. There they were defeated by eventual champions France in 16th place.

Messi failed to score in knockouts of the World Cup for the fourth consecutive time, raising more questions about his status as one of the greatest players in history. However, all doubts are now gone with this win.
